Jim Drouet

Jim Drouet spent fifteen years in advertising and publishing, learning how to build an image. Then he turned to painting, radically.

Born in 1961, trained at the Beaux-Arts d’Angoulême, he lives on the Atlantic coast in Vendée. He paints in oil, with a flat brush, and builds his palette by value rather than by colour. Blues and oranges dominate, with a subtle play of transparency. His canvases are framed like film stills: rigorous composition, stripped-back settings, strong contrasts. People are his favourite subject, caught in dazzling light and in motion, yet always calm.

His work has been shown in France, Germany, Switzerland, Portugal, the USA and Mallorca, and at international contemporary art fairs.

“It’s the work on light that guides me above all.”

A Drouet doesn’t just show light. It builds the scene around it.
